Please introduce yourself

As this website is growing, and new users are joining, I would love to be able to know more about you. I have contacted a few of you by e-mail to start a communication, but my goal is to create a safe place to be able to convey information that will be helpful to others and reaffirm what we are doing to help our children.

So far, I have identified key themes in my interviews with mothers of children with Asperger Syndrome that I am sure will benefit all of who are mothering and educating children with different brains. So far, themes that I have identified include: Networks and Support, Maternal Stress, Educational Interventions, Behavioral Interventions, Spiritual Stories, and Parental Relationships, and Sibling Interactions.

I am going to be finishing my dissertation this summer, and I look forward to your feedback on my research.

Help!!

Hi, my 8 year old son has recently been diagnosed with Aspergers. The day to day life as Aspergers parents know is a hard one. I am always questionning myself and my judgement and do not really know how to cope with tantrums, bad behaviour and swearing. I would love to chat to people who know how this feels and perhaps could swap ideas in dealing with certain situations.

hello

my name is doug, wife's name is laura. our 6 y/o son is currently going through all the tests/evals associated with his poor social skills & behavior. not to mention a host of other issues mentioned in aspergers syndrome. problems w/ our son were evident as early as 18 mos. when he was old enough to be in a day care setting. school age now and only seems to be worsening. numerous doctors, specialists, and medication combos have followed. not to mention diagnoses of ADHD & ODD. a counselor recently mentioned aspergers as a possibility. the more research we do the more it seems evident as such. my wife and i have been very frustrated to say the least, and find it more difficult to cope with all the negative reports coming home from school. any and all help/advice would be appreciated thank you.

Hello

Hi, it does make you feel better to know that we are not alone in this situation. Life is very frustrating at the best of times but its knowing where to go and who to talk to for support. I understand totally about the negative reports from school, it is heartbreaking sometimes because you dont know (or i dont know) how to deal with this. I take away privileges but this sometimes does not work, I then feel guilty as its not his fault he behaves this way. How do you maintain discipline and not feel guilty??

Love to chat further.
